Push / Pull Factors

When individuals leave their homes and family members to migrate to new lands, they often do so based on a variety of a factors. Threats of violence, poor wages, war and famine push people to migrate, while the promise of safety, living wages and freedom pull people to uproot themselves and leave. We refer to these conditions as the push/pull factors of global migration. Here we examine these factors, as well as the dire consequence that can result for some on their migration journeys.
